The city of Großröhrsdorf is a small town in the upper Rödertal that is worth living and loving. Großröhrsdorf with its district Kleinröhrsdorf is only 22 km east of the gates of the state capital Dresden on the edge of the beautiful West-Lusatia. Großröhrsdorf currently has approximately 9.500 inhabitants.

Good transport connections via the motorway (Dresden-Görlitz) and good connections to local public transport make the city attractive as a place to live and work. Großröhrsdorf train station is on the Kamenz–Dresden railway line and is served by the Sachsen city railway, which takes you to Dresden Central Station in around 30 minutes.

Historically, the year 1680 was important for the city. That year, George Hans introduced ribbon weaving. The city on the river "Great Röder" became the stronghold of ribbon weaving. This industrial branch, which is over 300 years old, still shapes the cityscape today. In the technical museum of ribbon weaving, a part of the industrial history can be experienced up close on fully functioning, historic weaving machines. The traditional city history can be admired in the local history museum.

The Massenei-Forest on the outskirts of the city and the Massenei-Pool, one of the most beautiful water parks in the Free State of Saxony, offer active recreation.

With the Rödertal school location (high school, elementary school, a three-field sports hall) and an extensive range of childcare facilities, Großröhrsdorf is particularly interesting for young families and a popular place to live. Großröhrsdorf also has an extensive and well-developed network of health care. Except for a few specialist areas, good specialist care and therapeutic treatment are available in town.
